Send Us the Broken Part. We’ll Send Back a Print.

No drawings, no manufacturer, no problem. We measure the physical part and build a production-ready CAD model your shop can actually quote and cut.

Why Shops Call Us

When “Just Order the Part” Isn’t an Option Anymore

The equipment doesn’t care that the manufacturer folded three years ago. It still needs a replacement bushing, bracket, impeller, or housing that fits and holds up — and “call the OEM” stopped being on the table a while back. Maybe the part was superseded by an incompatible redesign. Maybe it was only ever sold bundled into a larger assembly, so there’s no standalone spec to order from. Maybe the drawings existed once and didn’t survive an ERP migration, a plant closure, or a records purge that happened before anyone currently on staff was hired.

This is reverse engineering’s actual use case: recreating obsolete parts and legacy equipment components with no reference drawing to check the work against. Everything gets re-derived from the physical part itself — its dimensions, its tolerances, and how it actually functions in the assembly it came from. That’s a different, harder problem than reverse-engineering something still in production somewhere, where a reference exists even if you can’t get a copy of it.

We see this most often on farm and agricultural equipment, food processing and canning line machinery, construction equipment, and general industrial machinery that’s been running well past its original manufacturer’s support window. A tractor implement, a hydraulic cylinder component, a pump shaft, a casting from a machine built decades ago — none of it comes with a drawing anymore, and none of it is getting replaced just because the paperwork didn’t survive. Reverse engineering closes that gap for onsite equipment and offshore-sourced machinery alike, whether the part is a simple bracket or a complex housing with mating features on every side.

How It Works

From Physical Part to Production-Ready CAD

1

Measure

Precision calipers, micrometers, coordinate measuring machines, and 3D laser scanning capture every dimension and surface, including features that were never toleranced on any surviving print.

2

Model

We rebuild the part as a full 3D CAD model in Inventor, SolidWorks, Mastercam, Creo, Solid Edge, or SpaceClaim — matching the original as-designed features, not just the as-worn shape in front of us.

3

Deliver

Dimensioned manufacturing drawings and native CAD files, formatted so your shop — or ours — can quote and cut the part without guessing at anything.

What You Get

Not Just a Shape Copy. A Part That Actually Fits.

Production-Ready CAD Models

Full 3D solid models built to be manufactured, not just viewed — ready to hand to any shop for a real quote.

Dimensioned Manufacturing Drawings

Complete drawing packages with tolerances called out, not just a pretty rendering with no usable dimensions.

Software Flexibility

Delivered in the format your team already works in — Inventor, SolidWorks, Mastercam, Creo, Solid Edge, or SpaceClaim.

Functional Analysis, Not Guesswork

We look at how the part actually performs in the assembly, so the reconstruction works the way the original did, not just looks the way it did.

Design Improvements Where They Help

If a material upgrade or a minor geometry change would make the part more manufacturable or longer-lasting, we’ll flag it — your call whether to take it.

Fit-to-Legacy-Part Accuracy

The new part has to seat, thread, and mate exactly like the old one did inside equipment that isn’t going anywhere. That’s the whole job.

Who Does the Work

Engineers Who’ve Actually Held the Broken Part

Reverse engineering isn’t just tracing an outline in CAD software. It takes someone who understands how a real part gets made — where a tolerance actually matters and where it doesn’t, which wear pattern is original geometry and which is twenty years of use talking. Our team has that background across CNC programming, CMM inspection, and mechanical design, so the model we hand back isn’t just accurate on screen — it’s something a machine shop can actually run.

Ready to Have It Made, Not Just Modeled?

A CAD model and drawing package is the first half of getting a legacy part back in service. If you already know you'll want it machined once the reverse engineering is done, our machining services team can take the finished drawing straight into production — one point of contact, no handoff between two separate vendors.

Common Questions

Reverse Engineering, Straight Answers

Do I need to send the original drawings?
No — that's the point. Most reverse engineering requests come in specifically because no drawing survives. We work directly from the physical part, a sample, or laser-scanned data if you already have it.
What if the part has no manufacturer markings or part number?
That's common with older or bundled components. We measure and model from function and fit, not from a part number that may not exist anymore.
Can you improve the design while you're at it?
If a material change or a small geometry tweak would make the part more manufacturable or more durable, we'll flag it as an option — we never change the design silently without your sign-off.
What file formats do you deliver?
Native CAD files in whatever platform you specify (Inventor, SolidWorks, Mastercam, Creo, Solid Edge, SpaceClaim) plus dimensioned PDF drawings for quoting.
Do you work from 3D scan data I already have?
Yes. If a part has already been laser-scanned or you have point cloud data from a prior project, we can build the CAD model and drawing package directly from that instead of starting a new physical measurement pass.
